Dr. Chris Franklin
Dr. Chris is originally from Georgetown, Kentucky. He attended Murray State University where he received a B.S. in Pre-Veterinary Medicine and minors in Biology and Chemistry. Dr. Chris is a 2015 graduate of Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. After completing an equine internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital he elected to make a career change and pursue practice in small animal medicine. He returned to Auburn, Alabama to be with his then fiancé. He worked as an associate at East University Veterinary Hospital for over 2 years before returning to his home state to start a practice with his wife. Prior to the opening of DVC, Dr. Chris did relief work for BluePearl Veterinary Partners and Mobile Veterinary Services. Dr. Chris’ main goal as a veterinarian is to make sure that all of his clients feel heard, understood and cared for. He wants you to leave the exam room understanding his recommendations and feeling confident in his plan for your pet. In his free time Dr. Chris enjoys spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, gardening and doing Crossfit.
Dr. Katie Franklin
Dr. Katie is from Louisville, Kentucky. She attended University of Kentucky for her undergraduate degree where she received a B.A. in Chemistry. She is a 2018 graduate of Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to the opening of Dogwood Vet Clinic Dr. Katie practiced as a relief doctor at BluePearl Veterinary Partners, Corydon Animal Hospital and Jefferson Animal Hospital. She spends a majority of her time working as an associate veterinarian for Mobile Veterinary Services, practicing equine medicine in a practice that is majority racetrack medicine. Dr. Katie will be around the practice and seeing some appointments as needed but will be continuing to practice equine medicine. She and Dr. Chris welcomed their son Levi Franklin to the world on 10.1.19, so both Dr. Franklin’s will be staying busy taking care of their little one! Dr. Katie hopes that all of her clients enjoy their visits at Dogwood Vet Clinic and they feel it is a homey, welcoming environment where they aren’t afraid to ask questions and that they feel confident their pets are receiving the best care. In Dr. Katie’s free time she enjoys snuggling with her baby, horseback riding, crossfit, scrapbooking, hiking and baking. She also enjoys cooking and going out to eat with Dr. Chris!
Dr. Tyler Pelfrey
Dr. Pelfrey grew up in Paintsville, Kentucky. He attended Morehead State University where he majored in biology/pre-vet. He graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2015 after completing his clinical year at the University of Tennessee. After a year in general practice in central Florida, Dr. Pelfrey and his wife moved to the Idaho Panhandle to continue practice. He then completed advanced training in emergency medicine and practiced as a senior emergency clinician at Bluepearl Louisville for 2.5 years. After another 12 month stint in Florida practicing emergency medicine, the opportunity arose to practice with Dr.’s Chris and Katie and move his family back to Kentucky. Dr. Pelfrey hopes that providing the best veterinary care will strengthen the bond between you and your pet, providing a lifetime of happiness. Dr. Pelfrey enjoys family time with his son, wife, three dogs, and two cats. You may spot him out on the Louisville Loop running, cycling, or strolling with his family.
Shannon was born and raised in Louisville, Ky. She has worked in healthcare as well as caring for the elderly and children. She spent 10 years living in Northern Ky while her husband pursued his career and started a family there. She has two children, Lexi and Connor who are her pride and joy, and a dachshund, named Gus! She has been back in Louisville for 5 years raising
her family and is excited to transition back into the work force caring for animals. In Shannon’s free time she enjoys watching her children play basketball, doing anything outdoors in nature, making memories with her children, cooking, and any time spent with her family and friends.
Natalie is from Shepherdsville, KY, but currently resides in Louisville, KY. She attended school in Evansville, IN at Harrison College studying Veterinary Technology. Natalie has lived her whole life surrounded by animals and always knew she would spend her life caring for them. She has been working as a technician for 3 years. In her free time, she enjoys running, reading, being outdoors, and spending time with her rescue puppy Loretta and her cat Videl.
Hailey is originally from Atlanta, GA and moved to Louisville in 2017. She has a range of backgrounds in hospitality from working at an event and camps center in Seattle, to serving as an Executive Administrative Assistant. She has always had a love for animals and people and is happy to merge these passions at Dogwood! She currently lives with her husband on a small farm with their Australian Shepherd, Jasper, and 30 chickens. In her free time, Hailey enjoys hiking with her husband and dog, meeting friends over a good cup of coffee, and spending quality time on their farm. She is excited for the opportunity to greet you and your pet at the front desk of Dogwood!
Meaghan grew up in Shelbyville, KY and has been in the veterinary field since 2012. Most of her time has been in general practice, but she has also worked in emergency and critical care. Additionally, she worked as a veterinary surgery technician alongside a board certified veterinary anesthesiologist and board certified veterinary surgeons. However, working in a small practice is her favorite because of the lasting relationships with clients and their pets. “Pitties” are her favorite breed – she loves their big heads, wiggle butts and their goofy, loving personalities! She is passionate about helping animals and especially loves caring for the ones who need it most. When Meaghan isn’t working, she is spending her free time planning her next travel adventure – she loves to travel and experience other cultures! She even lived in the US Virgin Islands and worked for a small private practice while she was there.
A Kentucky native, McKenna has always had a passion for animals of all shapes and sizes. From being an equestrian for 15 years, to working at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, McKenna has found that helping animals brings her the ultimate joy. McKenna is currently completing her undergrad degree with the hopes of moving on to Veterinary school. In her free time, McKenna enjoys powerlifting, laying on the couch with her Neopolitan Mastiff, Nala, and drinking coffee.
Taylor was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. She is new to the Louisville area and is excited to care for the pets and clients at Dogwood Veterinary Clinic. Taylor has been in the veterinary field for 7 years. She has always been passionate about animals, so it is no surprise that she ended up as a veterinary technician. She has 3 rescue pets at home. Her two pit bull mixes; Tiny, Roxy. Along with her cat, Oscar. In her spare time she enjoys camping, hiking, and spending time with family.
